‘Ghosts’ - A Sound Art EP by Shannon Pearl – Release Date : Full Moon, December 8th, 2022
Shannon Pearl’s sound art project, ‘Ghosts’, culminates in a mixed-media piece comprising an auditory response to visual stimuli. The images used in each art piece were captured by Pearl herself in places that inspire her through both their human and natural histories. These special locations are spread up and down the North-east coastline and carry special significance to the artist. The music written to accompany each image is almost entirely a cappella, save for sparse percussion embellishments and carefully chosen field recorded sound samples. Pearl works with a looper to use her voice to full effect, creating a rich sonic landscape by ear, in which a listener can lose themselves. ‘Ghosts’ is an attempt to weave threads of history and heritage into contemporary works, forging meaningful links to the past through the artist’s dual creative practices of music and photography, resulting in an immersive experience for audiences and hopefully bringing them closer to these places of ancestral connection. These works will be displayed in PopRecs from 8th – 15th December 2022, moving on to be displayed at The Good Apple Café 15th – 22nd December2022.
